DC orders probe into BPL list

AMBALA: Taking congnizance of TOI report “7 of ice factory owner’s family in BPL list” appearing on Monday, deputy commissioner Sameer Pal Srow has ordered a probe into the inclusion of names of former councillor Santokh Singh and six others of his family in the BPL list. The family owns an ice factory.
Although Srow did not rule out the possibility of errors creeping in during the preparation of a fresh list of 5,000-odd BPL families, he was categoric that action would be taken against errant officials.
“We have already ordered a probe into the entire issue and are in the process of identifying the loopholes.... we cannot rule out human error into this as well,” the DC said. He added that more people, whose names figured erroneously in the BPL list, have come forward to surrender their cards. Srow spent most part of Monday in holding meetings with those officers involved in the process of issuance of BPL cards.
